Learning Log 7

Today me and my class performed our Romeo and Juliet performace. It was very tiring as we practiced this performace for a lot of days and on that day itself, we spent a lot of time putting on all the props. The previous day, we watched as our schoolmates performed adn we were really imnpressed at how well prepared they were. Thei props were also very nice. We started having buterflies in our stomach. When it was my groups turn to perform, we tried our best not to waste all those practices and did our best. After the perfrmance, I watched our play at one of my friends phone and realised that we did quite good. Other groups of my class also did quite good and their props were really nice. In conclusion, I think that my group could have done better with better props. However, I also think that since we all did our best our score could be quite high.

An example of a metaphor is," the teacher thundered at the school." One more example of a literary device would be hyperbole. An example of hyperbole is,"she must have weighed a ton." Other examples of literary devices would be,Personification,Olfactory,Symbol and repetition.

Learning Log 5

Today,me and my classmates learned about unseen poems. At first, it was really difficult, but the key to getting marks on unseen poems is to understand it rather than reading it. If you read it without understanding it, you will never get to answer the questions about the poem. To answer this, we also need to dig for the meaning. To do this, we need to use who, what, what, when, how and how. Who, means who is doing the speaking in the poem. When, is when was the poem written. What, means what is the poem about. What, also means what is the poet trying to say. How, means how does the poet convey meaning to you. How also means how do you respond to the poem.

When answering the question, you could be asked to, explain, describe in your own words, comment on, give evidence, compare and/or contrast and give your opinion. There are seven things you SHOULD do and five things you should NOT do. The seven thing you should do are, read the poem or passage carefully, read the questions carefully and underline keywords so you do not forget the point of the question, plan your answer, use the PEEL method, quote from the text, use your own words whenever possible and finally, express your feelings and show the relevance of your feelings to the text. The five things you should not do is, rush through the poem or passage, start answering the questions before reading ALL the instructions and questions, quote long passages, make general statements without explaining why and finally just say what is happening, even if the question asks you to do just that.

The method, PEEL, means point, explain or elaborate, give evidence or example and link. Point means, what do you want to say. Explaining or elaborating means, why did you say that. Giving evidence or example means, why did you say that. Giving links means, how is this connected with the question or the previous paragraphs and your main point.

Learning Log 4

Today, we did our literature performance. We needed to act as witches. Since there was three witches, we performed in groups of three. It was really exciting to see other groups performing. Even though some of the groups came prepared with slides and sound of witches, their show did not work out the way they wanted it to as the timing was really poor. In my opinion, if you want the performance to be perfect, you need the sound affects of the three witches to be timed perfectly. For example, if you are too slow, the sound affect of the witch will be sounded first and then you would say your line. This would make things really confusing. If you allocate a certain person who has experience to press the sound affects, the sound affects would be timed perfectly.I also learned that if you do not practice your performance, you will not be able to act as good as those who have practiced.

When it was time for our group to perform, I felt really nervous as I was scared that I would forget my lines. However, my performances went smoothly but I think that my group would have done even better if we had more props. In conclusion. I think that the this performance went really well and I hope the next one would be as fun as this one.

Learning Log 3

When I first read act one scene two, I did not understand most of the words they said. However, when Mrs Woo went through the original text with the class, I could understand the text a bit better. Some words or phrases in the original text were not what they seemed. For example, "two spent swimmers" is used to talk about war not swimmers. In my opinion, this phrases are the words that makes the text difficult.

When me and my fellow classmates were divided into thirteen different groups for our skit on act one scene one, I was feeling very nervous that I would mess up the play and ruin my groups performance. When I got to know my group members, I was relieved that one of my friends was in the same group as me. Mrs Woo said that our performance would be after the term one holiday which gives us plenty of time to study and memorize the text.

In groups of four, Mrs Woo asked us to share the sentences that we were suppose to come up with. We agreed that our sentences were good and that we would not change it. When Mrs Woo said that the comic strips had to be handed in next week, I was shocked. My drawing was really terrible and I was really worried that I would fail. I decided then not to worry as if I put an effort into my work, Mrs Woo would certainly see that I had put in effort into my work as she is a kind and understanding teacher. I was really eager to see some of my friends work as some of them are really good in drawing. In conclusion, I think that this lesson is very fun and interesting and I would really love it if we could do this kind if group work again.

Learning Log 2

In my opinion, witches should have a high pitched voice just like when our literature teacher tried to mimic the sound of a witch. However, when our literature teacher asked some of our classmates to try and speak like a witch, they did not all speak in high pitch voices. Some of the males speak in a very low pitch voice which was recommended by our literature teacher as she knows that some of us do not have high-pitched voices. As the days passed, our classmates became used to mimicking witches and they became more confident.

During our group discussion about superstitions, my friends had found a lot of superstitions that I have never heard of. Some of them found some really funny superstitions that i would have never thought of but I respected their believes as different culture has different believes. It was really fun doing this group activity and I hope that we will do more activities like this in the future.

When it was time to share our superstitions to the whole class, my group decided to choose one superstition from each of us. When the other groups presented their findings, we were surprised that some of their findings were the same as ours. Some of their superstitions were really long winded and some were really short. Unfortunately, we did not have time to finish the  presentation so we did not present our superstitions to the class.
